Prairie Horizons Farm is committed to producing healthful and delicious foods from Certified Organic pastures, gardens and Joraan’s Orchard. We feed our community in many ways and, in turn, depend upon our community. We invite you to learn about food at its source and welcome you to connect with the diverse and dynamic web of life that is Prairie Horizons Farm.
Through our immersive internship program, you will live and work on the farm and learn firsthand the methods we use to grow, harvest and prepare healthy foods in a sustainable system.
FOOD & FARM
Prairie Horizons Farm is excited to partner with the Iowa State University Dietetics Program to offer immersive internship opportunities!
We offer a unique career and life-enhancing experience in collaboration with School to Farm, a program of the Hunger and Environmental Nutrition Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Interns work and learn in diverse Certified Organic vegetable and herb gardens, an organic orchard and interact with the herd of cattle that graze restored and native prairie. Interns will cultivate a connection to the land, develop farm-to-table cooking skills, participate in local and regional food systems, enjoy fireside chats and eat from the seasonal abundance of the farm.
Prairie Horizons’s own Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Mary Jo Forbord, and Lindsay Ganong, RDN and sustainable foods dietitian, will lead and inspire you through this 3-week summer internship program. More information is available here.
Our mission is to build a farm-based system of healthy food production, processing and distribution that is economically sound, environmentally responsible and beneficial to future generations.
