Prairie Horizons Farm encompasses 480 acres of original native prairie and diverse, perennial, certified organic pastures in the rolling glacial moraine of southern Pope County, Minnesota. It exists to operate and demonstrate a farm-based system of healthy and diverse food production, processing, and distribution that is economically sound, environmentally responsible and life-enhancing for future generations.
Fifth generation Minnesota farmers Luverne Forbord and Mary Jo Forbord purchased the farm in 1985 from Luverne’s parents. Their children, Meriah, Joraan, and Jaiden helped operate Hilltop Holsteins, a successful Grade A dairy operation until 2002, when they began to transition the farm to grass-based organic agriculture. Today the Forbords market Prairie Horizons beef, fruit, and vegetables directly to customers.
